HOT DATE NIGHT, WOO-WOO

So, I beat Pikmin tonight. The original one, on the Gamecube. It was my first time playing it, never really got into the Pikmin series before. Got all the spaceship parts in 20 days. My thoughts? Interesting game, really cute at times, but jesus christ it was probably one of the most frustrating experiences with a game I've had. I can't believe the game shipped with some of the problems it had. The simple act of crossing a bridge in a straight line conjures suicidal compulsions in your Pikmin, and you'll lose a good dozen because of their destructive impulses. Bombs are such a crucial component in this game, but the game itself absolutely refuses to let you use them in any effective way. The final boss was almost impossible to do with the "intended" method of using bombs. You try to throw a yellow Pikmin to bomb an enemy, they'll either A) stand around and do nothing, B) throw it at the wrong thing, or C) Wait ten minutes and then throw the bomb when it no longer matters. Oh, and god help you if you want to call back that yellow fucker standing around doing nothing with the bomb. Using the whistle, a mechanic they've taught you the entire game, causes them to just fucking drop the bomb in your group and not only kill half your team, but also waste precious limited bombs. I ended up forgoing any "tactics" with the final boss and just pelted the fucker's dumb face with red pikmin.

I've been watching my roommate play Pikmin 3, and almost everything I complained about was fixed, which is great! I'll probably end up playing it next since Pikmin 2 is ridiculously hard to get right now. I like a lot of elements about the series, but man, by the end, Pikmin 1 just fucking lost me.

That's all for today. See you on Friday!
