75) That Weird Guy

So remember that project I was hinting at awhile back? That big thing Leslie and I were working on? Maybe I should go ahead and tell you guys a bit about that.

Leslie and I are currently working on a graphic novel series. We’re still in the planning phase of it, but I believe we’ll be able to sit down and write the script for it very soon. Right now, we’re still trying to get a firm grasp on our characters and setting, but let me tell you what we’ve got so far

Our main character: Pit Lockhorn. Born and raised in an unknown, hidden village in central Texas, Pit is a local legend and hero as the village’s greatest steer wrestler and bull rider. There isn’t a bull or bronco that Pit can’t bring down, and the village looks up to him as an idol. But when the rodeo closes its doors and the village ranch is bought up, Pit is forced to saddle up and move away from his rural home in the woods and mosey on to the big city.

It’s here that Pit will eventually settle into his new job with his new coworker Maggie, an eccentric scientist who provides Pit with the technology needed to succeed in his new job (though that technology is often misused or ignored altogether).

His new job?

Defending the city from giant monsters, of course.

Pit must use his brute strength and rodeo finesse to bring down these monsters, discover their origin, and earn a modest salary to keep himself afloat in this strange city.

Pit’s story is heavily inspired by the tall tales of the Old West and Industrial Age. Our hero will regularly battle monsters with little more than his bare hands while interacting with a weird and diverse cast of city-slickers when he’s not on the clock. Though he possesses Herculean strength, he’s certainly not invincible and will have to rely on a combination of force, agility, and momentum to truly take down any of these monsters, much like a real wrestler would have to. Naturally, Leslie will be drawing it and I’ll be writing. We’re aiming to tell Pit’s entire story through a short collection of black-and-white graphic novels. Pit’s tale will not be a “monster-a-day” superhero story, but instead will continually build up to a conclusive and climactic end.

We’re still totally in the planning phase, of course, and there are many things here that are subject to change, but we’re really excited about this story and we really hope we can send it out to a publisher sometime in the future! We’ll let you guys know how progress is coming whenever we actually make some!

Alright, that’s enough plugging for now. Hope you guys are interested in the story! We’ll see you on Sunday!
