106) Light Up the Fight

EDIT: This is future Brad from the distant year of 2015. This page you're reading has been edited to replace a bad joke that we regret and to more properly reflect the tone and attitude of Blaster Nation. While some people might be upset that we're "censoring" ourselves, we feel the joke is out of place and detracts from the page's quality, and we believe the page is better without it. The joke was a mistake and we're not proud of it, but we can't pretend like we didn't tell it, either. So if you'd really like to see the original version, you can see it here.

Now, back to past Brad.

Yeah, this update was way too late. We're really sorry! If it makes you feel better, check out the image below!

Click that picture to hear our 1-hour long interview with the Webcast Beacon, who were gracious enough to have us on and spell Leslie's last name wrong! You seriously have no idea how often this happens, like literally everyone we've ever known has spelt her name that way. Except for me, of course. Me spelling her name right was what basically determined us as soulmates.

So yeah, finally getting to the interesting stuff in this chapter. There's always such a long build-up to these kinds of things. But now we've got all the characters in, we've got a goal, and soon we'll have something we've been waiting to do since forever. We've put a ton of work into the later half of this chapter! You're going to like where this goes, I promise!

So, normally, I don't like to advertise things that aren't myself, but this shit's a little personal to me. Don't worry, nobody I know is dying or anything tragic like that. No, the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention has a kickstarter to fund the return of its gaming convention in Texas.

See, Leslie and I attended the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention in 2010, and it was easily one of the most magical times we've ever experienced. If you're in the US, chances are the only conventions you have around your area are anime and maybe the occasional comic book convention. SGC is one of the only pure gaming conventions I've seen in this country and oh my god everything about it was fantastic. The hotel sported a GIGANTIC gaming room, I mean like literally the size of a fucking arena, with every console and several arcade cabinets available along with near-hourly tournaments. The dealers room had some of the coolest merchandise I've ever seen (I've still got a Turtles in Time arcade cabinet logo nailed up over our door). One of the rooms was a mini-auditorium dedicated to screening terrible video game movies and cartoon shows on a projection screen, where we would all make commentary over the shows and generally have a good time blasting whatever played. There was even a PC room dedicated to Team Fortress 2 LAN parties and the beta for Megaman Deathmatch.

TheSpoonyOne was there, the Angry Video Game Nerd was there, BrentalFloss held a concert, I personally shared an elevator with Stuttering Craig, there were all sorts of fantastic cosplays going around, and Nathan J. Barnatt (also known as Keith Apicary) roamed the halls creating chaos everywhere he went. Have I told you how much I love Nathan? Like, serious man-crush here. Nathan is my fucking idol. He is everything I aspire to be as a person and as a man. There is literally nothing that man can't do. He cannonballed off the roof of an excersize building into the adjacent pool on the roof of a hotel. He led a congo line (that Leslie and I took part in) through the restricted areas of the hotel and back. He surfed a piano while dancing to a chorus of people playing his Neo Geo anthem. He climbed a parking lot light pole and delivered an amazing ending speech to the convention goers. Nathan has been confirmed to be a guest at this convention should it be funded, and that alone should be enough of a reason for me to go. But that's not enough. No, there's so much more.

ScrewAttack simply didn't have the money to fund another convention of that size again, so when we heard it was cancelled in 2011, it was awful. But now with Kickstarter, we actually have a chance to relive one of the greatest weekends of our lives. Seriously, if you're in the Texas area and want to attend the best convention in the world, please do. Contribute anything. I want this to happen more than anything else in the world. We NEED this convention to happen. And if it goes through, Leslie and I would be more than happy to spend the con with you guys.

But that's enough of that! See you guys Wednesday!

EDIT: Also, if this picture of me posing with the the OCRemix crew in their speedos is not enough to convince you that this convention is nothing but pure fucking magic, then nothing will.
