I love the way Leslie drew Ash in these. She's definitely the most anime of the cast (rightfully so) and is just super fun to look at.
I've been working ten hour days to make up for all the time I missed doing Connecticon stuff, and then I spent all night flat-coloring comics and writing stuff, so don't expect a super huge blog post tonight because I'm really trying to fight the urge to pass out. I really need to start going to bed earlier.
HOWEVER, don't worry too much about me. This day in particular has been one of the greatest days ever for me. And hell, it should be great to pretty much any Nintendo fan, really. Two of the greatest, rarest Nintendo games ever have finally hit their digital stores and my god I have never been so HYPED for decade-old games. The big story today is that Nintendo just kind of plopped Earthbound on us Americans after years of begging. They even reformatted the packed-in strategy guide that came with the original cartridge and put it up on their virtual console manual. The Mother series is a huge favorite of mine, and Earthbound in particular is one of the greatest, most inventive JRPGs ever, so if you haven't tried it yet, now is the time.
The second superrare game they dropped today is Shantae, Wayforward's Gameboy Color tour de force. Wayforward is one of my favorite developers, and Shantae was their crowning achievement. It came out near the end of the GBC's life but by god did it push that little handheld to its limits. The visuals and effects are gorgeous, the Jake Kaufman soundtrack is INCREDIBLE, and the gameplay is pretty challenging but still very rewarding. Seriously, you're going to get lost fairly often but dammit, you've never played a better Gameboy game than this. It's a steal at $5, considering the cartridge itself will cost you over $300 on ebay.
Alright, I'm gonna hit the sack. See you guys on Sunday! Leslie's got a birthday party to go to and I've got more work, but we'll try to get the comic out before all that happens!
